The Elder Justice Resource Guide includes information about elder abuse, accessible courtrooms for older adults, capacity and confusion, effective communication, and available resources for older adults experiencing abuse. The Guide also includes a comprehensive directory of national, state, and local services available to older adults.
"The Office for Justice Initiatives is committed to ensuring that every New Yorker has access to appropriate and meaningful justice. This commitment includes a close examination of the complex needs of court users, supporting the Judiciary in its effort to remain responsive to those needs, resolving legal issues, and taking the steps necessary to identify and serve our most vulnerable populations."
"Victims of elder abuse, who are subjected to financial, mental, and/or physical exploitation, are unlikely to self-identify or to ask for help, especially in open court. The information and resources contained on this website will go a long way toward helping judges and court users identify and respond to elder abuse, and more importantly will serve as a tool for communities seeking to prevent elder abuse moving forward."
